25. คุณพูดภาษาอังกฤษเป็นไหม[khun phut paa-săa ang-grìt bpen măi] = Do You Speak English? | Learn Thai By Sentences

Sà-wàt-dee kráp สวัสดีครับ

Welcome to “Learn Thai by Sentences” blog. Hope everybody has good times since then.

Well, as I have told you previously on my latest posting articles, I will teach you all the sentences “Do you speak English?” and some related sentences in Thai.

Let me suppose you and your friend were in Thailand and you need someone who can speak English for helping you taking your friend to the hospital. You do not understand Thai much at that time.

So, you make a question sentence like as below:

คุณ พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ เป็น ไหม
khun phut paa-săa ang-grìt bpen măi
Do you speak English?

คุณ พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ได้ ไหม
khun phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai măi
Do you speak English?

The two sentences above are serving as the same meaning in Thai.

เป็น[bpen] is the verb to be ; adverb-auxiliary = to ; into ; as ; for ; of whereas ได้[dâai] is an adverb-auxiliary, equivalent got to ; did ; get to

You also can use the other two sentences below make some question sentences:

ใคร พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ เป็น บ้าง
khrai phut paa-săa ang-grìt bpen baang
Does anyone speak English?

ใคร พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ได้ บ้าง
khrai phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai baang
Does anyone speak English?

Yes, there should be someone replies you as some sentences below:

The two example sentences are followed for a man to say. Because, the pronoun ผม[pŏm] is for a man.

ผม พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ เป็น
pŏm phut paa-săa ang-grìt bpen
I speak English.

ผม พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ได้
pŏm phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai
I speak English.

Let's learn the two more example sentences below which are for women to use for speaking. Notice that the pronounce ฉัน[chăn] is for a female.

ฉัน พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ เป็น
chăn phut paa-săa ang-grìt bpen
I speak English.

ฉัน พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ได้
chăn phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai
I speak English.

You may also hear somebody saying that "He does not speak English" in Thai as:

ผม ขอโทษ
pŏm khŏr tôht
I am sorry.

ผม พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ไม่ได้
pŏm phut paa-săa ang-grìt mâi dâai
I don't speak English.

or

ผม พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ได้ นิดหน่อย
pŏm phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai nít nòi
I speak English just a little.

If a speaker was a lady, use the sentences below.

ฉัน ขอโทษ
chăn khŏr tôht
I am sorry.

ฉัน พูด ภาษา อังกฤษ ไม่ได้
chăn phut paa-săa ang-grìt mâi dâai
I don't speak English.

or

chăn phut paa-săa ang-grìt dâai nít nòi
I speak English just a little.

See you again,
